The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have added a homegrown product to their 2016 roster — goalkeeper Brenden Alfery.
Cheswick native Alfery has been training with the Hounds since the preseason started, and the team today made it official — as he signed his first professional contract with the with his hometown pro team.
While growing up in the Pittsburgh area, Alfery played for Century United and at Central Catholic High School. He moved on to play at NCAA Division III Grove City College before finishing his college career at Robert Morris University.
Alfery started all 37 games for the Colonials during his time in Moon Township and the past two summers he played for the National Premier Soccer League’s Fort Pitt Regiment. Alfery is the third goalkeeper added to the mix — as the Riverhounds brought back veteran goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap and added Costa Rican stopper Mauricio Vargas to compete for the starting slot between the posts.
Alfery joins Nick Kolarac as the only other Pittsburgh-area native on the Riverhounds roster.
