From Pittsburgh Panthers Athletics reports
LEXINGTON, KY – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team concluded the 2016 preseason on Saturday evening, falling to the Kentucky Wildcats by a score of 2-0 on the road.
Kentucky struck first, as Tanya Samarzich found the back of the net in the 25th minute, controlling the ball off of a bounce, turning and spinning to the far corner.
Neither team was able to score in the second period as the Wildcats remained on top 1-0.
The Wildcats extended their lead in the 71st minute, as a goal from Foster Ignoffo would make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. That score would hold for the remainder of the contest, as Kentucky took the 2-0 decision.
The Panthers will kick off the regular season Aug. 19 as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a 7 p.m. meeting with Michigan. Pitt will return to Ambrose Urbanic Field for a trio of home contests, welcoming Duquesne (Aug. 21), Colorado College (Aug. 25) and Xavier (Aug. 28).
