Duquesne Men Top SFU 2-1 In OT In Season Opener

PITTSBURGH – Olav Hovstad’s goal in the 100th minute led the Duquesne men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Saint Francis U in the 2016 season opener Friday night at Rooney Field.
The Red Flash got on the board first with 14 seconds remaining until halftime. SFU’s Mario Mastrangelo’s passed to Troye Kiernan who found Renan Fuentes on a give-and-go, beating Kozlowski low on the left side.
The Dukes got the equalizer in the 49th minute when Chris Alescio collected the loose ball in the box and tapped it past Red Flash keeper Marcus Rojas.
The score remained level at the end of regulation.
In overtime, SFU had the first chance to score when Jack Webber’s header in the box was stopped by Kozlowski in the 95th minute.
The game ended when Hovstad headed Bryan Fegley’s pass past Rojas with 51 seconds remaining in the period.
