Buffalo, N.Y. (Aug. 28, 2016) – Canisius College took the lead in the 12th minute and never looked back as they upended the Robert Morris University women’s soccer team, 3-0, at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y., Sunday afternoon. The Colonials slip to 0-3 on the season while Canisius gets its first victory against three losses.
Elizabeth Ash gave the Griffs the lead in the 12th minute, cutting inside her defender and placing a left footed shot in the upper left hand corner from 18 yards out. Maddie and Callie Good were credited with the assists. Gretta Dry made it 2-0 in the 27th minute as a long throw-in was headed to the center of the Colonials box. Kayla Kelley saved the ball off the line, but Dry was there to knock home the rebound.
Canisius carried the 2-0 advantage into the break before stretching the margin to 3-0 on the 49th minute. A long ball through the defense by Dry found Sabrina Fitzgerald behind the defense. With Makenzie Shearson changing from net, Fitzgerald calmly slotted her shot inside the left post.
Canisius held a 12-10 advantage in shots. Only Erin Ritzer, with six shots, and Kasia Bak, with four, were credited with shots in the game. Shearson finished with four saves.
Robert Morris continues its four-game road trip next Sunday, Sept. 4, when they take on Penn in a 3:00 p.m. match.
