Duquesne Women Top Davidson, 2-0, To Remain Unbeaten in A-10

The Duquesne women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play, scoring   twice in the second half en route to a 2-0 victory over Davidson at Rooney Field Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Dukes have six shutouts for the season and improve to 8-3-2, 4-0-0, and are now alone in first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference, after George Mason (3-1) lost 4-0 at Saint Louis (3-0-1) this afternoon.
The first scoring opportunity for the Dukes occurred in the 21st minute when Haley Yow‘s attempt from 30 yards out was stopped by Davidson keeper Alex Carpenter. Duquesne had another chance in the 30th minute, however a Katie O’Connor shot would bounce off the post, holding the Dukes scoreless heading into halftime.
The Dukes would open the second half with an attempt by O’Connor in the 47th minute, which was saved by Carpenter.
O’Connor went on to beat the Davidson defense on the right side and cross the ball to Yow, who found the back of the net deep in the box in the 59th minute.
Linnea Faccenda added an insurance goal in the 89th minute when she found the back of the net on the left side. In total, the Dukes outshot Davidson 15-9 and had 7 corner kick opportunities to Davidson’s two.
The shutout is Murphy’s fourth for the season.
 
UP NEXT: The Dukes travel to Fairfax, Va. to take on George Mason (9-3-0, 3-1-0 A-10) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
