PIAA boys & girls soccer playoffs begin Tuesday (updated brackets here)

With the completion of the district playoffs on Saturday at Highmark Stadium, the high school soccer focus now turns to the State playoffs.
By midday Sunday, the brackets for 16 team knockout tournament in each classification, featuring match-ups along with times and locations of the first round should be complete. As of this post time — all of the match-ups for Boys 2A and all of the Girls games and times have been set. Check back here later today for more updates.
Here are the WPIAL’s qualifying schools by classification, with their match-ups (4A 1st and 3rd place teams will play each other in first round) along with links to the PIAA brackets.
All first round games will be played Tuesday, November 7

BOYS 4A
  • Peters Township vs Erie McDowell (at Fairview) – 3:30 p.m.
  • North Allegheny *WPIAL champion vs Pine Richland (at Fox Chapel) – 8 p.m.
BOYS 3A
  • Montour *WPIAL champion vs Holidaysburg (at Hampton) – 6 p.m.
  • West Allegheny vs Dubios (at Clearfield) – 7 p.m.
  • South Fayette vs Cathedral Prep (at Fairview) – 7:30 p.m.
BOYS 2A
  • Quaker Valley vs St. Mary’s (at Brockway) – 7 p.m.
  • Beaver vs Mercyhurst Prep (at Prep Villa Events Center, Erie) – 7:30 p.m.
  • Shady Side Academy *WPIAL champion vs Fairview (at Seneca Valley) – 8 p.m.
BOYS 1A
  • Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic *WPIAL champion vs Port Allegany (at Moon) – 6 p.m.
  • Seton LaSalle vs Dubois (at Brockway) – 6 p.m.
  • Springdale vs Windber (at Somerset) – 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS 4A 
  • Penn Trafford *WPIAL champion vs North Allegheny (at Fox Chapel) – 6 p.m.
  • Norwin vs State College (at Altoona’s Mansion Park Stadium) – 6 p.m.
GIRLS 3A 
  • Mars vs Dubois (at Clearfield Area) – 5 p.m.
  • South Park vs Villa Mare (at Fairview) – 5:30 p.m.
  • Moon *WPIAL champion vs Holidaysburg (at Hampton) – 8 p.m.
GIRLS 2A
  • Waynesburg Central *WPIAL champion vs Harbor Creek (at Seneca Valley) – 6 p.m.
  • Freedom vs Karns City (at Clarion) – 6 p.m.

*only two girls WPIAL/District 7 teams qualify for PIAA tournament 

GIRLS 1A
  • Shady Side Academy vs Wilmington (at Slippery Rock) – 5:30 p.m.
  • Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic vs Ridgeway (at Brockway) – 5 p.m.
  • Greensburg Central Catholic *WPIAL champion vs Brockway (at Moon) – 8 p.m.

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
