Steel City FC tops Ann Arbor on the road, 3-2

After splitting a result at home in the first two matches, Steel City FC has begun a weekend on the road with a victory.

Traveling up to Concordia University, Steel City FC faced off against AAFC Lumberjills, commonly known as Ann Arbor.

Steel City FC claimed their second victory of the season, ending the match with a 3-2 final score. Mel Renda, a forward from Seton Hill University, scored two goals in the victory.

Amanda Miller, a forward from Fordham University, also scored.

After the match, Jordan Daloisio said that her fellow teammates are “excited” about the direction that Steel City FC is going under head coach Tom Ovenden.

“I think we’re playing really good soccer,” Daloisio, an alumna of Clarion University, said. “It’s fun to watch, it’s fun to play. I think we’re in a really good position going forward.”

Throughout the match, Daloisio — who watched from the sidelines due to a hamstring injury — said that the team was working on different types of combination plays.

“I think we were able to hit our stride and do some of those things,” Daloisio said. “It was a good game, they were a good side. Defensively, we’ve been working on team shape and holding our line. We have some work to do, but I see improvements.”

The team will immediately bounce back with another road match against Motor City FC in Detroit, which begins at 1 p.m. EST.

Daloisio said that the immediate turn around is nothing new for the team. In fact, after the victory against Ann Arbor, Ovenden suggested the team take a trip for some ice cream. Daloisio said it’s all about having the right attitude to adjust quickly for another match.

“It’s about getting a good night sleep and getting a good breakfast,” Daloisio said. “Most of the girls are playing college soccer, so they’re used to the quick turnaround. I don’t think it’s a big shock to their body.”

Despite having to sit out of the match due to injury, Daloisio is excited to face Motor City again, saying that “they’re always a really good team.”

“They won out conference last year,” Daloisio said. “They move the ball really well and they’re really good moving forward. We know we’re going to have to defend a lot, but hopefully we can get some counter attacks going.”

“We need to make sure we’re working together, playing as a unit and on the same page.”
