Preston Lutz

Thomas Jefferson

Preston had a hat trick last Tuesday in TJ’s 8-1 victory over McKeesport. This was Preston’s third hat trick in the last two weeks.  His goal scoring outburst has helped the Jaguars into a surprising second place in the section.  Unfortunately, early in match vs first place, and unbeated Franklin Regional, Preston suffered an ankle injury. He will be sitting out this week’s games, including TJ’s showdown for second place vs South Fayette. Lutz has 12 goals and 6 assists on the season.  Along with AJ Meshanko, they have helped lead a resurgence for TJ this year.

Lutz is hoping to return before the end of the regular season and help TJ make potential a playoff run in a very competitive Boys 3A .

Michaela Watkins

Freedom

With 14 goals and five assists, including three more last week, Watkins has only added to an impressive high school career at Freedom.

Watkins helped Freedom win the WPIAL Class AA title in 2016, and followed it up with a 40-goal performance for the WPIAL runner-up Bulldogs last season.

Committed to attend and play soccer at Youngstown State, Watkins is providing senior leadership for Freedom as they look to return to Highmark Stadium for a third consecutive WPIAL Finals appearance. Currently, Freedom are undefeated in section play, and are among the favorites to challenge for a WPIAL title in Girls 2A.

Off the field, Watkins has a 4.2 GPA, and is involved with the Interact, Ushers and Lioness clubs. Watkins is a Youngstown State commit, where she will continue her soccer career while majoring in nursing.
