Robert Morris men concede header in 2 OT in 1-0 loss at FDU

Robert Morris’ men’s soccer team conceded a header in the 106th minute, dropping a double-overtime heart breaker, 1-0, this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

Neither Robert Morris (4-8-1, 2-2-0 NEC) nor Fairleigh Dickinson (5-5-4, 2-1-2 NEC) could pull ahead in regulation, as the teams were deadlocked in shot attempts, 7-7. The hosts then took control in overtime by taking five shots to the Colonials’ one, ultimately netting the winner in the second extra frame.

Zac Sherman was denied twice by Jahmali White in the opening 45 minutes, the second time coming off a header from a Lorenzo Guagneli corner kick. RMU carried that pressure into the start of the second half, with Guilherme Fanck forcing a save out of White and Kai Olguin ripping a shot off a Knights defender.

Sherman registered his game-high third shot on goal in the 64th minute, as White stepped up to make another save.

Winter Fondi kept the game scoreless briefly in the second overtime, diving to make a stop on Jacob Labovitz at the far left post. FDU retained possession and quickly found its walk-off tally, as Noah Chia flicked it towards the right post to an open Ahu Obhakhan.

Fondi made three saves in defeat.

Robert Morris returns to the North Athletic Complex for a pair of home games this coming weekend. The Colonials host LIU Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, and wrap up the home stand on Sunday, Oct. 21 at noon against Central Connecticut.
