Seneca Valley girls soccer team never stopped battling — winning the WPIAL Girls Class 4A title by tying it with just three seconds remaining, then getting the game-winner just moments later at the beginning of the first overtime to turn back Peters Township, 2-1 at Highmark Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

As the match entered the final minute, Seneca Valley was awarded a free kick on the edge of the box from a handball call on Peters Township.

The clock was ticking away.

They didn’t even get the courtesy of the clock being stopped. They had work quickly, but keep composed enough in their very last chance to tie the match.

Sophomore forward Breana Valentovish sent her shot through Peters Twp wall, as it may have nicked a defender, then the ball found it to the back of the net.

They never lost the momentum.

Only a few minutes later, less than two minutes into the overtime period, the Raiders lined up for a corner kick that would be taken by Mia Zec.

Senior forward Lauren Sileo crashed the net hard, getting to the ball first within a few feet of the goal line. She smashed the ball down with her face, and into the back of the net for the game-winner.

“It hit my face, and hurt for a little bit, bit I didn’t care,” Sileo said. “It’s been a dream of mine to win a WPIAL championship here (at Highmark Stadium), and we did it!
