PIAA girls soccer championship: quarterfinal match-ups, sites and times set

On Tuesday, 18 of 22 WPIAL (District 7) teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA boys and girls soccer championships.

The quarterfinal rounds will be played on Saturday.

South Park is the lone team remaining in 3A, as they’ll face Villa Marie, the District 10 runner-up. The 1A bracket features a rematch between Shady Side and Bentworth (Bentworth beat SSA in the WPIAL semifinal).

Meanwhile, in 3A, Oakland Catholic, Mars and Hampton each advanced with first round wins, as did the two WPIAL 4A representatives: Seneca Valley and Peters Township.  Oakland Catholic will face Hampton in the only other all-WPIAL confrontation on the girls side of the brackets.

Below you’ll find the schedule with all the remaining WPIAL teams, by classification, for Saturday’s girls quarterfinal round.

Seneca Valley vs Souderton – 1 pm – at Chambersburg

Peters Township vs Cumberland Valley – 12 Noon – at Altoona’s Mansion Park Stadium

3A

Oakland Catholic vs Hampton – 1 pm – at North Allegheny

Mars vs Blue Mountain – 1 pm – at Bald Eagle

2A

South Park vs Villa Marie – 2 pm – at Slippery Rock

1A

Shady Side vs Bentworth – -1 pm – at Mars

Freedom vs Wilmington – 12 Noon – at Slippery Rock

He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
