As the sixth-seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional this past weekend, West Virginia Wesleyan women’s soccer team were a long shot to make it to the Regional Finals, and advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the National Tournament, but that’s exactly what they did this weekend.

UPDATED NCAA DIVISION II WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET (FINAL DESTINATION: HIGHMARK STADIUM)

The Lady Cats did it by defeating a pair of ranked teams from Pennsylvania, upsetting No. 18 Kutztown in penalty kicks, 4-1, in first-round action, then they did it again, knocking off regional hosts No. 8 West Chester in penalty kicks as well.

On Sunday, former Plum standout Chelsea Hubner would deny the third and fifth attempts for West Chester.

Hubner also stopped three penalties in Friday’s shootout against Kutztown.

Orian Barr, Natalie PraterCarolyn Saulle, and Natlie Pireu would all make their attempts for Wesleyan to move them past second seeded West Chester.

In Friday’s shootout, Wesleyan used goals from Natalie Pireu, Natalie Prater, Carolyn Saulle and Orian Barr to earn the victory.

The Lady Bobcats (14-1-5) used strong play from goalkeepers Hubner and Ashlee Schumacher in each victory as they were outshot in both matches.

The Lady Cats will play the Atlantic Regional final next week against Bloomsburg, who defeated East Stroudsburg, 1-0, on Sunday.

The Women’s NCAA Division II soccer Final Four and National Championship games will be played in Pittsburgh, at Highmark Stadium on November 29 and December 1.
