If you are looking for some soccer action to catch today — the University of Pittsburgh Women’s team will be scrimmaging The Ohio State University (with a live feed on ESPN3) at Ambrose Urbanic Field Thursday afternoon for its first exhibition of the 2016 season.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Petersen Sports Complex. The game can be seen live on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app.
The game marks the first official competition of the 2016 season as Pitt gears up for its fourth year as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
In the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, the Buckeyes of Ohio State check in at No. 23. Pitt is set to square off against six additional programs ranked in the top 25 when ACC competition gets underway.
Last season, the Panthers completed the most successful in program history, earning its first ACC win and a record of 10-7-1. Pitt grabbed four conference wins in total, knocking off North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Louisville and Syracuse.
Thursday’s outing will be the first of two preseason games for the Panthers as they will travel to Lexington, KY, on Aug. 13 for a 7 p.m. meeting with Kentucky.
Pittsburgh Soccer Report will have more coverage of Pitt women’s team in our College Preview later this month — and I will be at Ambrose Urbanic Field when they take on defending Atlantic 10 Champs — and crosstown rivals Duquesne University on Sunday, April 21 in their second game of the season.
