From University of Pittsburgh Athletic Department report
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team opened up its two-game California roadtrip Friday evening, falling to UC Santa Barbara 4-0 under the lights at Harder Stadium.
“This was a disappointing effort from our group tonight,” said head coach Greg Miller. “We had too many preventable lapses in the first half that put the game out of reach. When you give up a goal 45 seconds into the game, it really takes a great deal away from you when all you’re trying to do is get off to a good start.
“Our group had a much more resilient and positive second half with signs of promise, but we failed to put pressure on them by not converting our chances. UCSB is a good team and deserves all the credit.”
The Panthers got down early as Santa Barbara took a 1-0 lead just seconds into the contest. A cross from Mallory Hromatko left the goal wide open for Chace Schornstein as the Gauchos took the advantage.
The Gauchos would extend their lead 18 minutes later as a misplayed ball in front of the next left things open for Hromatko to give Santa Barbara a 2-0 lead.
A cross pass from Dakota Griggs would result in a header goal for Amanda Ball as the Gauchos took a 3-0 lead into the break.
The Gauchos would seal the game in the second half, as Ball converted on a penalty kick, giving Santa Barbara a 4-0 victory.
With the loss, Pitt falls to 1-3-1 on the season. They will return to action on Sunday, taking on UC Irvine at 7:30 p.m. ET.
