The Pitt men’s soccer team (1-5-2, 0-2-1 ACC) battled its way to a 1-1 double overtime draw Friday night against the Duke Blue Devils (3-2-2, 0-2-1 ACC) at Koskinen Stadium.
Just 24 seconds into the match, a foul was called on Outcalt in the box. Duke’s Brian White would take the penalty kick for the Blue Devils and got it past Outcalt for an extremely early lead, however Pitt would hold them to just that.
The Panthers responded in the 22nd minute off a corner kick by freshman Luca Mellor. With the ball scrambling around the in the penalty box, Mellor managed to push it past the Duke keeper.
Mellor’s goal was his third of the season and leads the team with six points.
Redshirt freshman Mikal Outcalt continued to show his growth in goal as he finished the night going 1-1 against penalty kicks, while making six total saves.
Duke concluded the game with an advantage in shots (16-8) and corners (6-3).
Pitt will remain on the road and travel to Farmville, Va., to meet Longwood Monday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m.
