@DuqMSoccer Earn 4th Straight Shutout, Battle Navy To Scoreless Draw

Duquesne posted its fourth consecutive shutout, but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Navy.
Evan Kozlowski, who has been in goal for all four clean sheets, posted a pair of saves for the Dukes. Navy goalkeeper Mac Burke finished with four saves. Navy had one more shot than Duquesne (12-11), while DU finished with four shots on goal to two for the Midshipmen.
The game was even in the first half with Navy registering one more shot than Duquesne (5-4), but DU posting one more shot on goal (2-1). The Dukes had the lone corner kick in the opening 45.
Navy’s Pirez Bahar put one off the crossbar just under 20 minutes into the match, in the best scoring opportunity for either team. Duquesne controlled the ball for the majority of the second half, but could not manage a tally. Navy’s Sam Bascom nearly ended it with just over 30 seconds left in regulation, but his shot from 30 yards out hit the crossbar. DU had one more shot than Navy (10-9) entering overtime. Duquesne’s best scoring chance came with under 10 seconds left, when George Poppas’s hard shot from close range was swallowed by Burke.

“On a night like tonight, as we progress as a team, we need to learn that a team is going to do what they need to do to try to knock us off. As our program continues to improve, this will happen more and more often,” said Chase Brooks, DUQUESNE Head Coach.
“It is a matter of continuing to learn how to compete for 90 minutes – or more – every time we take the field, no matter who the opponent, or the location.”

The Dukes complete the non-conference portion of the schedule at home against Buffalo on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. Buffalo is listed among others receiving votes in this week’s NSCAA Top 25.
