#PIAA FINALS FRI SCOREBOARD: Moon Seizes Title, SSA & Sewickley Fall #WPIAL #PghSoccer

It was a rough start for WPIAL teams on Friday, as Shady Side Academy girls and Sewickley Academy boys both were blitzed by goal scoring flurries by explosive opponents.
Moon girls, who have rolled through the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs, took a 2-0 lead in the first half, then hung on for 2-1 win over nine-time champions Villa Joseph Marie.

GIRLS 3A Moon 2  Villa Joseph Marie 1

The Moon Tigers ran through the WPIAL and the first three rounds of the PIAA playoffs in impressive fashion — and started off the PIAA final with a one-two punch from a goal scored on Izzy Engel header an Emily Orr corner kick in the 6th minute, then set up the second goal as play-maker Delaney Snyder was fouled in the box to set up an Emma Thomas penalty kick to give the Tigers a 2 goal edge at the half.
The second half saw the momentum swing over to Villa Joseph Marie, as they controlled possession and broke through for a goal on a nice 1-2, that Murphy Agnew put past Tigers goalkeeper Maddie Sleva.

GIRLS 1A – Fairfield 9  Shady Side Academy 4

Yes — that is not a misprint.   There were 13 goals scored in this game.
The Shady Side fell behind 3-0 in the first 18 minutes to Fairfield.   After Krystyna Rytel fired a zinger from about 28 yards to cut the lead to 3-1, it appeared there would be some hope for the Indians as they went to halftime playing a bit better.

But just like the start of the first half, Fairfield came out firing on all cylinders — putting up five more goals — matched by three too little-to-late goals by Shady Side, including two more from Rytel in what was the highest scoring PIAA Soccer Final ever, 9-4.
The Lady Knights (26-1) netted six goals in the second half and outshot the Indians, 23-12
Here’s Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Doug Gulasy’s game recap from Hershey:.

“I’m so proud of the way my team fought back,” SSA Head Coach Mary Lynch told Gulasy after the game. “We were down, and we were able to still come back and score four goals. They just kept fighting, and that’s just a testament to what this team has done all season.”

BOYS 1A – Camp Hill 4  Sewickley Academy 1

Sewickley had to deal with a fortunate bounce from a Camp Hill throw-in only a minute-and-a-half into the game that got them behind,  as Mason McDonald converted on the ball that skipped to his feet in the box.
The Panthers never really recovered, giving up another two goals in the first 50 minutes.
Mike Napoleone scored the lone goal for Sewickley, putting a shot in the top left corner with 16:46 left to make the score 3-1. It was only the second goal Camp Hill netminder Noah Smeriglio permitted since the start of the District 3 playoffs.
