PITTSBURGH – A goal in the 87th minute by freshman Juelle Love gave the University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Hofstra in the season opener Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Love, who was celebrating her birthday, collected a rebound off a Taylor Pryce shot and sunk it into the back of the open net.
“I feel like we didn’t play particularly well, but we’re a young team trying to find its way and sometimes you’ve just got to gut things out,” said head coach Greg Miller. “We kept them off the scoreboard long enough to get a goal and got out of here with the win.”
Redshirt freshman keeper Katelyn McEachern got her first career win and shutout, recording six saves in the game, as the Panthers improved to 1-0 on the year.
