Faccenda's game winner lifts Dukes past VCU

Linnea Faccenda‘s goal in the 93rd minute lifted the Duquesne women’s soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory over VCU on Thursday night.
“It was ugly, it wasn’t pretty, but this time of the year, in conference play, we’ll take wins any way we can get them,” Al Alvine, Duquesne coach, said.
Faccenda nearly got on the board in the 11th minute, however VCU goalie Audrey Sanderson made a diving save.
VCU posted four shots in the 52nd minute, with Kyra Murphy recording a pair of saves. Murphy finished the match with five saves.
Faccenda’s attempt in the 90th minute went wide of the goal, sending the game into overtime.
In the sequence that led to the game winner Katie O’Connor fed the ball to Lauren Bell who’s shot deflected, and as the ball came to Faccenda, she quickly hit a one-time volley  in the 93rd minute for the goal.

The Dukes, now 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, will travel to the Bronx for a match with conference foe Fordham on Sunday.
