Duke halts Pitt's win streak

From University of Pittsburgh athletic department report
Pitt’s men’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 19 Duke Blue Devils Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

“We weren’t sure what we were going to get from Duke. They have played several different ways against different opponents,” said head coach Jay Vidovich. I think they thought the best way was to press us. The second half we could handle it, the first we couldn’t. In the second half, we had them pinned, we were a man down for 20 minutes and they couldn’t break us. We had countless opportunities, it just didn’t fall. We have to give credit to them.”

With the loss, Pitt’s record moves to 6-6-0, and 1-4-0 in the ACC, as the Blue Devils improve to 9-2-1 and 3-2-0 in the ACC.
Duke out-shot the Panthers 16-8 and capitalized on a rebound off goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt in the 16th minute as Duke’s Brian White put the Blue Devils up 1-0.
Neither team would score for nearly 64 minutes, as the Blue Devils would deflect another shot off Outcalt, which found the foot of Duke’s Cameron Moseley, who took a touch and put a shot over a diving Outcalt to give the visitors the 2-0 victory.
Duke was Pitt’s fifth ACC opponent and fifth top 25 foe of the season, snapping a streak of back-to-back wins over nationally ranked opponents.
The Panthers return to Ambrose Urbanic Field Tuesday for a showdown against Penn State on October 10th. Action is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
