From Duquesne University athletic department report
Despite out playing St. Bonaventure for much of their Atlantic 10 conference match on Thursday, Duquesne’s women’s team lost to the Bonnies 1-0 at Rooney Field.
St. Bonaventure’s Mariah Marrero scored the lone goal of the match to give the Bonnies a 1-0 victory over Duquesne on Thursday night.
Marrero scored off a free kick into the box from Sydney Cassagnol which was redirected by a header from Alex Thompson toward the center of the box.
The Dukes, now 10-5-2 overall and 6-3 in conference, dominated in most statistical categories, including shots (18-6), shots on target (4-2) and corners (9-1). Leading the attack, Linnea Faccenda tied a career-high with seven shots.
Despite the setback against the 11th place team in the Atlantic 10 standings, the Dukes remain alone in third place, and will travel to Washington D.C. on Sunday to take on George Washington (5-2-2), who sit right below them in the standings. With a win, the Dukes should be able to hold on to third place and earn a first round home playoff game when the A10 playoffs start on Saturday, October 28.
