That’s right — the WPIAL boys soccer playoffs are here — and today the madness began with 32 games.
With each classification from 1A to 4A with its round of 16 action.

6:46 p.m. – another game going to OT…


6:44 p.m. – Defending WPIAL 4A champs North Allegheny in a dogfight with — Connellsville. Will we see another 2 seed lose to a 15??


6:43 p.m. – Norwin 1 Canon Macmillan 1. Jacob Nebinsky with a rocket shot from 35 yards out ties the score with 6:35 2nd half.
6:21 p.m. – Fox Chapel feeling the wrath of Peters Township attack — and another goal today from distance…


5:58 p.m. – HALFTIME: Peters: 1 Fox Chapel: 0
5:08 p.m. – GOAL – Nico Marsh — Pine Richland wins in OT.
Pine Richland wins it 2-1 over Central Catholic with 6:27 left in 1st OT
Nico Marsh bends it in from left side for his second goal of the game.
I’m heading down to the field to talk to the hero.
5:07 p.m. — UPSET ALERT. A 15 seed just beat a 2 seed.


4:55 p.m. – Everyone here at Plum getting money’s worth today.. We’re heading to another OT game.  Pine Richland 1 Central Catholic 1
4:47 p.m. – Yes — lightning strikes twice, another game with the team trailing 1-0 late finds equalizer from distance.  This just happened as Central ties it up with only five minutes remaining in the game.


3:50 p.m. – Pine Richland’s Nico Marsh puts in the go-ahead goal near the end of the half to give the Rams the 1-0 lead right before half.
3:07 p.m. – some early finals:

3:05 p.m. – GOAL Upper St. Clair with the game winner — with 3:27 left in 1st OT.

2:58 p.m. – Plum and USC are battling hard into OT now…
2:57 p.m. — a real wild one just ended at South Park…


2:45 p.m. – Equalizer! Plum’s Jordan Floyd rips a shot into the upper right corner from about 30 yards. My goodness! We’re all level here.
2:35 p.m. – I’ve arrived at Plum High School — and currently Upper St. Clair with a 1-0 lead on Plum, with about 16 minutes left in the match.
1:02 p.m. –– a goal, 30 seconds in!


 
Boys schedule for the WPIAL playoffs is as follows:

  • Round of 16 games:  Saturday, October 21
  • Quarterfinals: Wednesday, October 25
  • Semifinals: Saturday, October 28
  • Finals: Thursday, November 2 – Saturday, November 4

Girls playoff games will begin Monday.
So, here’s the set-up.
Below and for each round, I’ll post a live file like this with a scoreboard, and I’ll do my best to keep up throughout the day.

At this point, it looks like I am heading to Plum High School to check out parts of the what looks to be a fantastic double header of boys 4A action including Plum vs Upper St. Clair (1 p.m. kickoff) and Central Catholic vs Pine Richland (3 p.m.).

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
