Pitt women remain unbeaten with 1-1 draw vs Kent St

Freshman Anna Rico continued her hot streak Friday night, tallying her third consecutive goal as the Panthers battled to a 1-1 draw against Kent State at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

Rico gave Pitt the 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute as she connected on a Dixon Veltri pass. The goal was her third in as many games.

“She [Rico] has been the key because she’s carrying the load offensively right now and she had another great goal early,” Randy Waldrum, Pitt head coach, said. “She would probably tell you that she could have had two or three today. The efficiency that she’s had in front of the net has just been something. Hopefully we keep her going but get a few more going as well.”

Kent State would tie things up in the 53rd minute, converting a corner kick, as two overtimes wouldn’t be enough and things came to a conclusion with a 1-1 tie.

The Panthers out-shot the Golden Flashes 10-9 with Rico (4) leading the way, followed by Taylor Pryce (3) and Veltri (2). Keeper Amaia Pena tallied six saves in the outing.

Pitt will close out its four-game homestand Sunday afternoon, hosting Jacksonville at noon at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
