Here are our week one honorees:
GIRLS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cande Kossel
Senior Goalkeeper – Bentworth
Kossel is considered one of the top returning girls keepers in single A competition, and started off the first weekend of the season with a few strong outings going against competition in higher classifications.
The Senior recorded a pair of clean sheets at the Fayette County invitational as Class 1A Bentworth knocked off Class 3A Uniontown, 6-0, then defeated Class 3A Ringgold. In the two shutouts, Kossel had an impressive 30 total saves, including 25 against Ringgold!
Heading into her senior season, Kossel already holds the school record for most shutouts.
BOYS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Colton Spence
Sophomore Midfielder – Deer Lakes
The Deer Lakes midfielder has been off to a terrific start this season, recording four goals and two assists in three games, leading the Lancers to an undefeated start.
Over the weekend, Deer Lakes knocked off a pair of top teams in 1A classification, topping Winchester Thurston (6-2) and Seton LaSalle (2-0) — as Spence led the way with a goal and an assist brace. Spence added a hat trick in a big win over Valley on Tuesday.
