Point Park women win seventh straight, beat WVU Tech 2-0

BOX SCORE

Two goals in the second half lifted Point Park University women’s soccer to a 2-0 victory over visiting WVU Tech on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium.

It was a tight battle in River States Conference action, and the Pioneers came out on top for their seventh win in a row to improve to 4-0 RSC.

Point Park, which is 7-4 overall, cracked the scoreboard first with Nikki Polens‘ goal in the 58th minute. She jumped on a rebound at the goal line and put it in for a huge goal and a 1-0 lead. It was her first goal of the year.

The Pioneers extended the lead to 2-0 when Tia Horew notched her fifth goal in a span of six games. That came with 24 minutes remaining and was enough to salt the game away given another shutout by the Pioneers.

Point Park’s defense posted its fifth shutout during the current win streak of seven games. The Pioneers have given up just two goals in the span. The Pioneers allowed 11 shots by WVU Tech (4-4, 1-2 RSC), of which six were on goal.

The Pioneers managed nine shots on offense, and they made the most of their six shots on goal. WVU Tech goalkeeper Jenna Miller had all four of her saves in the first half, and both of Point Park’s shots on target the final 45 minutes went in for goals.

Point Park’s next game is Thursday, Oct. 11 versus RSC opponent Ohio Christian (5-4-1, 2-0 RSC) with a kickoff of 5 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
