Duquesne’s Aunkst, Losco recognized with all-conference honors

Thursday, the Atlantic 10 named its women’s soccer all-conference teams and two Duquesne players were recognized for their accomplishments.

Senior defender Casey Aunkst, was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team, the second consecutive year she has received all-conference honors.

“It is a huge honor to be recognized amongst the many top players within our conference this year,” Aunkst said. “It is definitely a great way to end my collegiate career.”

Earlier in the season, Duquesne coach Al Alvine explained Aunkst’s team-first attitude and her steady play helped result in this award.

“She’s a leader that leads by example and part of that is sending a message to her teammates that if I can do anything for the team and put those interests ahead of mine, then anybody else on the team should be able to do that too,” said Alvine. “It’s a good message she sends by doing that.”

Senior midfielder Abby Losco was named to the Atlantic 10’s All-Academic Team with a 3.89 GPA.

Losco led the team with 10 points, this despite dealing with an injury during much of conference season. Alvine said that hers and fellow senior Katie O’Connor’s injury certainly had an impact on a young Duquesne team.

“Making the All Academic team means a lot to me,” said Losco. “I’ve put so much into my efforts with soccer and with my classes so it’s nice to be recognized for that.”

Duquesne finished 6-9-2 this season.
