PIAA boys soccer championship: quarterfinal match-ups, sites and times set

On Tuesday, 18 of 22 WPIAL (District 7) teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA boys and girls soccer championships.

The quarterfinal rounds will be played on Saturday.

There’s only one 4A team left, WPIAL champions Seneca Valley survived a tough challenge on Tuesday to win 3-2 in overtime. Meanwhile, both West Allegheny and Franklin Regional also advanced in 3A and both will have to travel a bit on Saturday.  In 2A, we’ll get to see a pretty good all-WPIAL match-up between two section champions, Deer Lakes and Quaker Valley on Saturday at North Allegheny (3 pm), while WPIAL champions Shady Side also moved on and will host Mercyhurst Prep at Mars, at 3 pm.

In 1A, there will be another all-WPIAL showdown in the quarterfinals as Seton-LaSalle gets another shot at Greensburg Central Catholic (at Peters Twp, at 1 pm). In the WPIAL semifinal, GCC took that match 2-1. Avonworth also advanced in 1A, and will play the second game at Peters against Rockwood.
