Join us at Piper’s Pub on May 1 to celebrate 20th Anniversary of Hounds first-ever game

We hope you can join Pittsburgh Soccer Now on Wednesday, May 1, at Piper’s Pub for a special celebration of the first-ever game in Pittsburgh Riverhounds history!

In the hopes of preserving some important footage of Pittsburgh soccer history, coaching icon John Kowalski connected with Patrick McCarthy to help digitize many of his old VHS tapes of games that he coached over the years.

Last year, McCarthy was excited to inform us that he found a copy of the first-ever Riverhounds game, played on May 1, 1999.

Exclusively through Pittsburgh Soccer Now, Patrick will be sharing the full game video between the Riverhounds and Cincinnati twenty years later — and releasing it 20 years to the day.

We are excited to announce that the digitized version of the game video will be uploaded on May 1 — and we’re looking forward to showing it at Piper’s Pub that night!

In fact, not only will Piper’s be showing the video, but in addition we are planning to have a Meet’n Greet that night.

We are excited that there will be some special guests joining us that evening, including a number of key players and coaches from that momentous first-ever Riverhounds game: Justin Evans, Gene Klein, and potential a few others! Both Patrick and I will be on hand as part of the Meet & Greet celebration that night.

Look in the coming days on Piper’s social media for throwback specials being available that night — as this year also marks the Pub’s 20th Anniversary as they’ve been serving soccer fans on the South Side since 1999!
