Grabbing your first job after graduating from college is a big deal for anybody. When that job is as a professional soccer player, it’s got to be even better.

Loudoun United today announced the signing of former University of Pittsburgh defenders Shane Wiedt and Robby Dambrot. The pair played together at the University of Akron before transferring together to the University of Pittsburgh, where they finished out their NCAA careers in 2018. Both hail originally from Akron, Ohio.

Wiedt and Dambrot join fellow recent Pitt alum Javi Perez in the professional ranks of football. Perez was drafted by Major League Soccer side LAFC in January of this year, and made one appearance before tearing his ACL in training.

Both Wiedt and Dambrot were regular starter’s for Jay Vidovich’s Pitt team. The 6-foot-3 Wiedt tallied 16 starts for the Panthers, while the 6-foot-1 Dambrot started in 19 contests.

Loudoun United is in their first year of existence as a football club, serving as an affiliated club for DC United. They play in the USL Championship, the second division of US soccer. Loudoun’s 5-4-9 record has them sitting in 14th place in the 18-team USL Championship Eastern Conference.

Their Pitt teammates will get a chance to catch them in action again in the Steel City in a few weeks when Loudoun United comes to Pittsburgh to face the Riverhounds on August 23rd.
