Point Park University announced the hiring of Bethanie Moreschi as the interim head coach of the Pioneers’ women’s soccer team on Monday.

Moreschi steps in on an interim basis for the 2019 season after former head coach Maggie Kuhn took on a new coaching opportunity at Lock Haven (PA) University.

Born and raised in the North Hills, Moreschi is was a standout both at North Hills High school, then down the road at La Roche University — before jumping into her coaching career.

Most recently, she’s served as women’s assistant coach (2017 & 2018) at  La Roche, and before that was North Hills High School girls head coach (2014-17)

Moreschi will look to keep Point Park’s program going in a positive direction that Kuhn took it — accumulating nearly 70 total wins, a 37-12-3 conference record and her teams qualified for the conference tournament during every season.

The team won 11 games last season in 2018 on the way to a regular season conference title. The 11 wins served as the second most wins in school history. Kuhn’s 2015 team won a single-season school record 12 games.

“I would like to thank coach Maggie Kuhn for her efforts and all of the success she brought to the Point Park University women’s soccer program,” Point Park Athletic Director John Ashaolu said.  “Bethanie Moreschi comes highly recommended, and I believe that she will hit the ground running as our interim women’s soccer head coach.

“She has experience as both a student-athlete and a coach at the high school and college levels. She comes from a soccer family, and everyone speaks well about her as a coach, her technical skills and her ability to mentor and develop players. I am looking forward to watching her continue to build on the standard that has been created by her predecessor.”

Moreschi had a standout playing career at La Roche from 2009-12. She was the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year as a senior in 2012. Moreschi was a team captain and is the second all-time leading goal scorer for the Redhawks with 68 career goals.

After college, Moreschi was an assistant coach for the Chartiers Valley High School girls’ soccer team and the JV head coach from 2013-14. On the club level, she has coached with Century United since 2009.

“I am honored to receive the opportunity to coach the Point Park women’s soccer team,” said Moreschi. “Maggie Kuhn created an impressive, hardworking and talented group. I look forward to getting to know each one of these student-athletes. We will work together to set individual and team goals and set out to accomplish them this season. I have a good feeling about this team and can’t wait to get started.”

The Pioneers have begun their preseason training for the 2019 season with Moreschi leading the team through its first workouts of the year on Monday, Aug. 12. Point Park opens its season Aug. 27 at Spring Arbor (Mich.)
