HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a quick turnaround for Mt.Lebanon after playing the final game of day one against Fleetwood, falling in OT 2-1, and opening up day two with a match-up against Wilson.

The Bulldogs applied most of the pressure early on in the first half, but could not convert any shots into goals because Blue Devils Keeper Steven Vines was on top of his game making big save after big save including two saves back to back as he stretched out to punch one away while getting knocked down by a Wilson player and then recovered to save the rebound shot to calm things down in the 13th minute.

Mt.Lebanon started to create a counter attack late in the first half and a near miss off the head of Danny Simboro would have put the Blue Devils in the lead, but we went into the half remaining scoreless.

It was a second half of back and forth play, but both keepers, Vines for Mt.Lebanon and Nate Holler for Wilson, made key saves when they had to as each team had their fair share of chances to get on the board. Mt.Lebanon had some corner kicks late and Wilson played a few into the box midway through the 2nd half, but the bounces did not go there way.

So, we headed to overtime in this match, Wilson’s first OT game of the weekend and Mt.Lebanon wrapped up day one with an Overtime loss and they would get another chance for an overtime win Saturday morning.

Both teams traded chances in the first and second overtime, but neither could break the ice and we would end this match with a scoreless draw. The Blue Devils had a chance to win the game late on a free kick, but the save was made by Holler.

Mt.Lebanon finishes the East-West Classic with a record of 0-1-1 (both games went to overtime) and Wilson finishes the classic 1-0-1.
