Brett earns USL Championship Player of the Week honors

In light of his two goal, one assist performance on Friday, Riverhounds SC forward Neco Brett has been voted the USL Championship Player of the Week for Week 26 of the 2019 season.

Brett’s big performance came in the Hounds’ impressive 4-0 win against Ottawa Fury FC on Friday night to bolster its chances at a top-four finish in the Eastern Conference.

Analysis & Player Grades: Hounds execute Lilley’s game plan with precision

Brett received 50 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL Championship market. Phoenix Rising FC’s Adam Jahn finished second on 22 percent after scoring three goals in two games as Rising FC extended its winning streak to 17 games by defeating Tacoma Defiance and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

In addition, Brett’s counterpart at the top of the Hounds attack, Steevan Dos Santos, also received recognition on the Team of the Week bench for delivering the game’s opening goal, from Brett’s assist, and contributed to both of Brett’s tallies with assists.

Brett now leads the Hounds in goals scored with 10. Dos Santos has eight. The Hounds now are fifth in USL Championship in goals scored (48), well ahead of its pace from a season ago.

Brett joins Dos Santos as the two Hounds players who’ve earned Player of The Week honors. Kenardo Forbes has been named to the Team of the Week three times this season.  This is the second time in his career Brett has earned Player of the Week honors. He won the selection in April 2018, after netting a hat trick vs Toronto FC II.
