WPIAL boys soccer scoreboard (9/19/19)

Welcome to Pittsburgh Soccer Now‘s WPIAL boys soccer scoreboard for Thursday, September 19, 2019.

We’ve got a full slate of scores (and tweets with more details) as we’ve reached the third Thursday of the boys soccer season — with almost all section matches.

In a match between two of the top teams in Boys 4A, Section 2, Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair had quite a battle on the field, but they also came together to show its support for Mt. Lebo principal Brian McFeeley.

McFeeley was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

It turned out to be a heck of a contest between the long-time South Hills area section rivals.

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals by Kieran McDonough and Danny Simboro.

USC scored in the 45th minute, when Mitch Friday received a long ball from Colin Sibley banging it home near post. The Panthers would tie the contest when Jack Myers played a ball into Sibley, who slotted it home.

In overtime though, Mt. Lebanon came through with the game-winner, as John Delveaux’s header on a corner kick puts the Blue Devils firmly in control of the section lead at the halfway point of the season.

TWEETS OF THE NIGHT

Rematch of WPIAL and PIAA semifinal from a year ago, went to the defending WPIAL 2A champions on its home turf, and our top-ranked Shady Side Academy, beating Deer Lakes, 1-0. The two section rivals will meet again later this season at Deer Lakes (and who knows, maybe they’ll play another game or two after that).

Some significant milestones for Charleroi boys tonight…
