PSN 1-on-1 with Borussia Dortmund legend Patrick Owomoyela

Earlier this week, on Monday to be precise, I had an opportunity to catch up with Borussia Dortmund (BVB) legend Patrick Owomoyela, who’s in the States to do some media events and connect with some local fan and youth academy programs in Dallas, New York — and here in Pittsburgh.

A storied German club from a blue collar city similar in size and scope as Pittsburgh, BVB is pretty heavily invested in growing their organizational footprint in the US.

After meeting up with local Pittsburgh, BVB supporters chapter on Sunday. Owomoyela attended his first-ever American Football game on Monday when the Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals.

Patrick and I spoke about BVB soccer and its growing US fan base, the growth of soccer in Pittsburgh, BVB’s experience in the Steel City last year, and much more. Of course, former BVB and current Chelsea/USMNT standout Christian Pulisic’s name came up a few times along with some of the other American players who are in the Bundesliga, including 16-year old Giovanni Reyna who’s now with Dortmund.

Owomoyela played in 84 games for Borussia Dortmund, won Bundesliga titles with the club in 2011 and 2012, and make 11 appearances on the pitch for Germany’s national team.
