Pitt’s men’s soccer team routed HFoward on Monday night, 6-0, at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

Five different Panthers netted goals in the win, including former Norwin standout Anthony Harding.

Scoring goals for Pitt were freshman Valentin Noel (10’), junior Edward Kizza (16’, 62’), sophomore Rodrigo Almeida (61’), redshirt freshmenHarding (85’) and Alec Townsend (88’).

“I think it was a difficult first half as I don’t think we found our rhythm of play,” said head coach Jay Vidovich. “The bench helped us out, brought a few boys in and did a really good job picking up the intensity of our game. The second half – just very happy. Some good play once again by some newcomers and guys like Alex Peperak did a good job; Chandler Vaughn showed his qualities out there, the goal by Rodrigo [Almeida] was fantastic.”

Pitt dominated the game, attempting 30 total shots – 15 in each half. The Panthers finished with an advantage in shots 30-2 and corners, 5-1.

After netting his two goals, Kizza jumped to a team-best 16 points. Freshman Veljko Petkovic recorded two assists and now has a second-best 10 points.

The Panthers came out of the gate looking to score, as Noel put Pitt on the board in the 10th minute for his second goal this season. Noel and Petkovic setup for a free kick on the left side. Noel passed the ball to Petkovic who quickly passed it back to Noel who buried it into the upper right 90.

Kizza put in his sixth goal of the year in the 16th minute thanks to a pass from the left side from Petkovic. Kizza finished with a diving header to give Pitt a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers went back to work in the second half, recording back-to-back goals in the 61st and 62nd minutes by Almeida and Kizza.

Harding, making his collegiate debut, recorded a goal in the 85th minute thanks to a ball from the right side from redshirt sophomore Chad Stout.

Townsend buried the final goal of the night in the 88th minute, bringing the game to what would be the final score, 6-0.

Pitt resumes action Friday, Oct. 11 when the Virginia Tech Hokies come to town for a 7 p.m. start at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
