Point Park men’s soccer team is on a tear.

The Pioneers tied the program record for most wins in a single season with Thursday night’s 7-0 victory over Carlow University at Highmark Stadium.

The Pioneers are now 12-1 overall, and 5-0 in River States Conference to tie the 1998 and 2013 teams for the most wins in team history.

The Pioneers built a 4-0 lead at the half and then added three more after halftime. Mitchell Roell, a junior from South Park, Pa., registered another hat trick to lead the scoring. Daan Stormink tallied three assists, and Wessel Rietveld added two more to set things up.

Point Park had a 42-10 in advantage in shots, including 24-3 in the first half. Roell scored his first goal in the eighth minute after a nice, long pass from Stormink. Geert Bijl made it 2-0 in the 17th minute with Stormink providing the assist again.

In the 20th minute, Rietveld took one of Point Park’s nine corner kicks, and he found Jonathan Roos on the far post for the third goal. Roell scored his second goal at 36:35 of the first half. Stormink and Rietveld provided the connecting passes to move the ball from midfield to the attacking third.

Roell completed his hat trick three minutes after halftime. It was Victor Lorente Casaus who assisted. The final two goals came from the combination of Jaime Rodriguez and Ndayisenga Emmanuel. Rodriguez put in a goal in the 76th minute with Emmanuel assisting. In the 87th minute, Rodriguez returned the favor by assisting on Emmanuel’s goal.

Point Park had Jesse Haak start a goalkeeper and make two saves in the first half. Niko Roros played the second half in goal, and he made three saves. Carlow had seven of its 10 shots after halftime, and the Celtics had five shots on goal overall.

Point Park’s 1998 team was 12-5, and the 2013 team was 12-7-1 as the previous times the Pioneers had this many wins.

Point Park is off until next weekend when it plays the most important games of its regular season. The Pioneers play at No. 18 WVU Tech (12-0-1, 6-0 RSC) on Thursday, Oct. 24 and they travel to No. 10 Rio Grande (11-3, 5-1 RSC) on Saturday, Oct. 26. On Thursday night, WVU Tech beat Rio Grande at home, 1-0, in double overtime to take first place in the RSC and put Point Park in second place.
