PIAA Semifinals: Quaker Valley, Winchester Thurston boys and Shady Side girls advance to Hershey

Welcome to the PIAA semifinals scoreboard for Wednesday, November 13.

Advancing from WPIAL were Quaker Valley (2A) and Winchester Thurston (1A) boys and Shady Side Academy (1A) girls. They’ll join Mars (3A) who won on Tuesday night to advance as the four WPIAL teams that will be playing for State titles over the weekend in Hershey.

BOYS

Boys Class 1A

FINAL:  Winchester Thurston 2, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 

Winchester Thurston will face Moravian Academy on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Hershey.

Boys Class 2A

FINAL: Quaker Valley 3, Mercyhurst Prep 0

For the third time in four years, the Quaker Valley boys soccer team will play for a PIAA Class 2A soccer championship against New Hope Solebury on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Hershey.

This is QV’s 13th PIAA finals (7-5), the most of any boys team in the state.

GIRLS

Girls Class 1A

FINAL: Shady Side Academy 4, Greensburg Central Catholic 1

Shady Side will take on Camp Hill on Saturday, at 11 a.m. in Hershey.

Girls Class 2A

FINAL – North Catholic 2, Villa Maria 4   (at Slippery Rock).

Villa Maria take on Lansdale Catholic on Friday, at 11 a.m. in Hershey.

HALF | Villa Maria 2, North Catholic 1

25′ | GOAL – Villa Maria – 2-1 – Ella Raimondi breaks through for Villa Maria, she nets a shot from outside the 18-yard box and the Victors take a one-goal lead.

13′ | GOAL – Villa Maria – 1-1 – Abby Godlewski hits a 30-yard free kick that ties up the game. A beautiful shot that slipped inside the left post.

8′ | North Catholic – 1-0 – Grace Billmann with the game’s first goal. Junior forward enters left side of the box and fires a shot past the VM goalie.

He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
