PIAA 2A Boys Final Preview: On short rest, Quaker Valley boys aim for 8th title

PIAA Class 2A Boys Soccer Final

Quaker Valley (WPIAL – District 7 Champion, 23-2) vs New Hope-Solebury (District 1 Champion )

Friday, November 15 | 1:30 p.m. | HersheyPark Stadium

Broadcast: PCN-TV | Live Stream

Quaker Valley boys soccer team will end its season much the same way they began it, by playing against a top-level opponent from Eastern PA on very short rest.

This time, they’ll be playing for chance to win a record eighth PIAA crown.

The Quakers defeated Mercyhurst Prep, 3-0, on Wednesday night, getting goals from Dom Reiter, Tommy Guild and Rowan Kriebel, then had Thursday to recoup for a bit and travel to Hershey to get ready for a Friday afternoon final.

The Quakers will take on New Hope-Solebury, who defeated Fleetwood, in a match that went to penalty kicks. Yes — that’s the same Fleetwood team that Quaker Valley played in a classic, back-and-forth match on short rest on the first Saturday of the season in the East-West Classic, losing 3-2 in overtime.

Quaker Valley’s toughest challenge in the WPIAL came against Deer Lakes in the Final at Highmark Stadium, and with a senior laden group led by the Reiter twins (Pitt commit Dom and Fritz), Franky Fernandez, Nick Kreibel, Tommy Guild and goalkeeper Rees Edwards, they’ll be hungry to add to its school’s rich PIAA tradition of winning state titles.

This group of seniors made the trip the first time as freshmen, won it as sophomores in 2017, and now they get a chance to capture the second state title of their high school career.

New Hope-Solebury has certainly shown an ability to win close games. In the PIAA tournament alone, it has won three one-goal games, including a first-round thriller that went to penalty kicks. … Kruse scored the game-winner in Tuesday’s semifinal win over Lewisburg. Davis Nagg also scored for New Hope. Kyle Campbell made two saves. … New Hope has played in three PIAA title games, winning in 2010 and ‘11 against Mercyhurst Prep. It lost to Seton LaSalle, 7-1, in 2006.
