The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer head coach Jay Vidovich announced the 2020 spring schedule this week, with six games scheduled from February to April, including three at home.

“We are excited to get back onto the field and compete again,” said Vidovich. “I’m looking forward to the growth and progress our men will achieve during this spring season.”

Pitt will open spring play Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Highmark Stadium at 9 a.m. against the Riverhounds SC.  Yes — you read that right — nine o’clock in the morning.

The Panthers then travel to Marshall on Saturday, March 7 for an afternoon contest beginning at 1 p.m. Marshall finished the 2019 campaign 16-3-3 and won the Conference USA championship, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where it advanced to the second round.

The Panthers return home for two home matches against Vaughan (Canada) on Saturday, March 21 at 9 a.m. and St. Francis on Saturday, March 28 at 7 p.m. St. Francis went 10-5-1 in 2019, including a 7-2 mark in NEC action.

Pitt ends the spring season on the road, facing Akron Saturday, April 4 and Penn State Saturday, April 11, both of which are scheduled for 3 p.m. Akron ended 2019 6-10-2, but went undefeated in MAC play at 4-0-1. Penn State, who defeated Pitt 3-1 on Oct. 15 in State College in, ended 2019 with a 12-4-3 record and an at-large berth to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.

The home matches against Vaughan and St. Francis will be played at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the Petersen Sports Complex with free admission to the public.

Pitt finished the 2019 season on a historic note, recording a 10-8-2 record and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.

Pitt continues its climb to new heights with historic NCAA win

Pitt hosted its first ACC Tournament game on Nov. 10 against NC State, winning 2-1 to advance to the semifinal round. The at-large bid into the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship marked the first time since 1965 the Panthers earned a spot in the tournament. Pitt defeated Lehigh, 2-0, on Nov. 21 for its first NCAA Tournament win in program history.
