Pitt women’s soccer reveals Fall 2020 schedule

Third-year head coach Randy Waldrum announced the University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer 2020 fall schedule on Friday. The Panthers play a 15-game regular season with five games at Ambrose Urbanic Field and eight ACC league contests with every game to be played on a Thursday or Sunday.

“I’m very excited that the ACC made the decision to play, and that our players have this opportunity,” said Waldrum. “The schedule was challenging to develop with the landscape changing daily, but I’m really happy with the schedule considering this crazy year. We have a great mix of ACC opponents which is the best conference in the country top to bottom, and we have some nonconference opponents we normally don’t get the opportunity to play. We are all excited about next week’s opening games.”

Home ACC Slate: Syracuse (Sept. 17), Boston College (Oct. 8), Florida State (Oct. 15) and Miami (Oct. 18)

The Panthers kick off ACC play against a long-time foe, the Orange. Pitt welcomes back Boston College to Pittsburgh, who the Panthers defeated 2-1 in overtime last year at Ambrose Urbanic Field to snap a three-year winless streak in ACC action. The two ACC members in the Sunshine State will square off against Pitt in the same weekend in October.

Road ACC Slate: Virginia (Oct. 1), Virginia Tech (Oct. 4), Clemson (Oct. 29) and Wake Forest (Nov. 1)

Pitt has two road weekend trips in conference play. The Panthers begin the month of October with a trip to Virginia for contests against the Cavaliers and Hokies and then end the regular season with the Tigers and Demon Deacons, who the Panthers both rallied against on the road last year to send the games into overtime.

Road Trips Down South: Appalachian State (Sept. 10 and 13) and The Citadel (Sept. 24 and 27)

Twice the Panthers will play a nonconference opponent in consecutive games in the same weekend on the road. Beginning the season in Boone, N.C. to face the Mountaineers, Pitt will head even further south to Charleston, S.C. two weeks later to play the Bulldogs. The games mark the first in the all-time series against the Sun Belt-member Appalachian State and SoCon-member The Citadel.

ACC Opponent in the Nonconference: Syracuse (Oct. 25)

Pitt faces Syracuse on the road a second time, but this time it won’t count in the league standings.

Home and Away: Navy (Sept. 20 and Oct. 11)

The Panthers and the Midshipmen, the reigning Patriot League Regular Season and Conference Tournament Champions, face each other twice in the fall. Pitt heads to Annapolis in the first matchup and then serve as hosts in the last nonconference game of the season.

ACC Tournament: Quarterfinals (Nov. 10), Semifinals (Nov. 13) and Championship (Nov. 15)

The conference tournament is once again held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The format remains the same, as the top-eight schools in the league standings will advance and compete for the league postseason title.

No Home Fans for September

The University of Pittsburgh was recently informed that fans will not be able to attend the Panthers’ matches at Ambrose Urbanic Field during the month of September. Pitt is working in concert with health officials and colleagues across the country regarding the possible accommodation of fans for home games after September.

The league’s leadership, and its medical advisory group, continue to meet on a weekly basis to share information and discuss medical issues related to the ACC’s return to play. Should any future adjustments be necessary, the ACC Board of Directors will do so at the appropriate time.
