OWENSBORO, Ky. — Point Park University men’s soccer remained undefeated in conference play after bursting out offensively in 5-2 win at Brescia (Ky.) University on Saturday. The Pioneers (2-1, 2-0 RSC) built a 3-0 lead to take control of the River States Conference matchup.

It only took nine minutes in to crack the scoreboard as leading goal scorer Mitchell Roell stole the ball from the keeper and tapped in a tally to give the Pioneers an early lead. The rest of the first half stayed quiet before a flurry of goals in the second half.

The Pioneers came out determined after halftime as they increased their lead to 3-0 after two quick goals in the first three minutes. Lorenzo Diaz scored a goal off a beautiful free kick. The following goal was a cross from Diaz that Netherlands native, Geert Bijl knocked in.

Point Park was able to get the entire roster involved once again. The Pioneers used 21 players in the game. Brescia was able to get in a couple of goals as the second half wore on, but each time, the Pioneers answered to maintain at least a two-goal and to put the final at three goals.

Brescia’s Javier Lopez scored in the 58th minute to cut the score to 3-1.. The Pioneers responded off a goal from Mats Douma, assisted by Roell, in the 67th minute to bump things back to 4-1.

In the last 10 minutes, Fabian Torres cut the Point Park lead to 4-2. Then Niyonyishu Heritier, scoring off a pass from Christopher Ciucanu, set the final in the closing minutes.

In the end, it was Bijl who scored the game-winning goal. Sean O’Hea played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and made six saves. Point Park contributed 23 shot attempts total with 16 shots on goal. Brescia had 12 shots overall with 10 of them coming in the second half as things got busier for O’Hea.

Point Park’s next game is a home date against Midway (Ky.) University on October 8 at 3:00 p.m
