Bentworth 5, Seton-LaSalle 2 (WPIAL Girls, Class 1A, Section 2)

Playing at home against a section rival that was ahead of them in the standings and had already beaten them earlier this year, Bentworth’s girls soccer team came up with a big win, beating Seton LaSalle, 5-2 on Monday night at Ellsworth Athletic Field.

A high scoring first half saw the Schrieber sisters leading the way in the Bearcats’ attack, as Reagan Schreiber completed the hat trick along with an assist, and her sister Mallory Schrieber scored a goal and had an assist. Cassidy Sciccitano added the other tally for Bentworth.

After taking a 4-2 lead into the half, Bentworth’s Head Coach Tyler Hamstra’s squad buckled down and limited the dangerous Seton-LaSalle side in the second half, then added an insurance goal from Reagan Schreiber in the 79th minute.

“I am so proud of the girls. This is a huge win to keep hopes alive for top two spot in our section,” Hamstra said.  “Our defense was fantastic tonight lead by Taylor Leonetti.

“The attack just keeps getting better and better. To score 5 against a top team in Class 1A is impressive.”

With the win, Bentworth improves to 5-3 in section play, while Seton-LaSalle remains in second place with a 7-2 record. Steel Valley is in first place and still unbeaten (8-0-1), after a 3-3 draw vs Chartiers-Houston.
