We are proud to share Pittsburgh Soccer Now’s WPIAL Girls Soccer Player of the Week honoree for Week four of the 2020 season….

Julia Centofanti

(Senior – Our Lady of Sacred Heart – Central Midfielder)

Pittsburgh Soccer Now‘s WPIAL Girls Player of the Week

(week 4 – Oct . 4-12)

Centofanti started off week by notching two goals against Mohawk on Saturday, as well as an assist, in a game that OLSH needed to win to continue remain in the hunt for a playoff spot and to build momentum.

Two days later, she spearheaded a 4-2 win against first-place Freedom, who had not lost a regular season game since 2015, by tallying another two goals and one more assist.  Julia has really shined all season, but came up big against OLSH’s toughest opponent.

Julia has played soccer since she was six years old, including four years at OLSH.  This year, showing how much of an asset she is to her team as a central midfielder, Centofanti has seven goals and 10 assists.  She is not only a talented soccer player, but she is also gifted in the classroom and successful as a student.  She has been described by her teachers and principal as a very genuine and motivated student that shows great senior leadership throughout the school and sets a great example for the underclassmen.  Julia excels with a 4.08 GPA as she plays soccer, co-manages the bowling team, and volunteers at Animal Friends.  Julia is a member of NHS and is really focused on excelling in AP Studio Art this year, as she sees herself majoring in graphic design/studio art at a four-year university next year.

OLSH Head Coach Paige Petroval on Centofanti:

“Julia leads by example on our team, and is typically a player that gets overlooked- despite doing her job exceptionally well, all the time.  I believe that “unsung hero” is the best way to describe Julia and her contributions to our team, especially throughout the past two years that I have been coaching her at OLSH.  She really makes a difference on the fieldand is a key component in building our attack, and also preventing our opponents from establishing a transition.  Julia is the complete player- she’s quick, has soccer-smarts, has a great shot, and a clean touch on the ball.  Her determined and focused work ethic not only pushes herself to improve, but also pushes her teammates to work and grow with her.”
