Moe Rosensteel Player of the Year Award 2020 winner: Sarah Schupansky (North Allegheny Senior High School)

On Sunday, the Kaitlyn “Moe” Rosensteel Scholarship Foundation announce its winner for the Moe Rosensteel Player of the Year Award. The winner was voted on by a panel of high school coaches and media members covering soccer in Western Pennsylvania.

Here’s the official announcement:

The 2020 Moe Rosensteel Player of the Year Award winner is Sarah Schupansky of North Allegheny Senior High School.

Sarah Schupansky was a finalist in 2019 for the award. Sarah is coming off an incredible season leading her team to back to back WPIAL titles and a PIAA Finalist in Class 4A. Sarah has recently signed her National Letter of Intent to play at the collegiate level at the University of Pittsburgh.

Sarah Schupansky has demonstrated a high level of play and has shown her leadership, passion and love  for the game. These characteristics identified were those of the award’s namesake Kaitlyn “Moe” Rosensteel.

This year, 2020, marks the second annual Moe Rosensteel Player of the Year Award to be awarded to a female high school soccer player in Western Pennsylvania.

Kaitlyn “Moe” Rosensteel was taken from us June 13, 2019. She was loved by her family and friends.  Moe grew up playing the game she loved with her sister and her friends. The game of soccer built those  long-lasting friendships and created many others. The game gave Moe the opportunity to play at the  collegiate level, though she would never get a chance to take the field. The Kaitlyn “Moe” Rosensteel  Scholarship Foundation provides this award in her memory.

Shupansky completed her senior campaign as team captain and leading North Allegheny to its second consecutive WPIAL Class 4A Girls soccer championship and a runner-up finish in the PIAA soccer tournament.  It was North Allegheny’s first appearance ever in a state final.

The University of Pittsburgh commit, who officially signed a letter of intent to attend and play for the Panthers next Fall, scored 24 goals for North Allegheny this season, and 58 goals overall, as a box-to-box midfielder and dynamic playmaker who is technically gifted, uses both feet very well and is a very accurate passer.

Schupansky also trains and competes for Pittsburgh Riverhounds Developmental Academy club team.

Three finalists were announced in early November for this honor, as last year’s recipient and Schupansky’s future teammate at Pitt, Ellie Coffield (Mars) and Tessa Dellarose (Brownsville, University of North Carolina commit) were finalists for this year’s award.
