Duquesne women’s soccer team revealed its 2021 spring schedule this week as the Dukes are scheduled to play nine contests, including eight against three Atlantic 10 foes in Dayton, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.

The Dukes, whose season moved from the fall to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will open the season with its lone non-conference match against Pitt in Oakland on March 7. Pitt will host the 15th edition of the City Game, as the Panthers hold a 10-4 advantage in the all-time series. Pitt defeated Duquesne 2-0 on Sept. 6, 2018 in Waldrum’s first season leading the program.

In the Fall, Pittsburgh Soccer Now’s Zac Weiss caught up with Duquesne head coach Al Alvine.

“The whole team is coming back and we have some really good freshmen so there is a lot of motivation for us to go out and try to get another A-10 Championship,”Alvine told Weiss in the Fall as they continued to train together.

“We’re a team that we believe we have the talent, athleticism and now you add that experience piece.”

Women’s soccer in the Atlantic 10 will be split into three geographic pods, with the top team from each pod along with the next best team overall (regardless of pod) will be selected and seeded for the four-team championship. Duquesne is grouped into a pod with Dayton, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure. The Dukes will play Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure three times and will have a home-and-home with Dayton.

After opening conference play against the Flyers on March 14, the Dukes will face the Bonnies at home on March 18. Duquesne’s first A-10 road trip will take place on March 2, when the Dukes head to Saint Louis.

Up next for Duquesne is a trip to Dayton on March 27. The Dukes open up April by hosting the Billikens in two consecutive games on April 1 and April 4. The Dukes will close out the regular season against St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. with a pair of games on April 8 and April 11.

The 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship has been reformatted to a four-team event scheduled for April 15-17 at a site to be determined.
