Pitt women’s soccer to play abbreviated spring schedule with two matches

Pitt women’s soccer completes its 2020-21 regular season with two games this spring, head coach Randy Waldrum announced Thursday. The Panthers host the City game against Duquesne on Sunday, March 7 and travel to Marshall on Sunday, March 21.

“Our staff cannot wait to get started this spring, and I know the players are ready as well,” Waldrum said. “We had a great start to the season so far this past fall and hope to build on it this spring.”

Pitt will host the 15th edition of the City Game, as the Panthers hold a 10-4 advantage in the all-time series. Pitt defeated Duquesne 2-0 on Sept. 6, 2018 in Waldrum’s first season leading the program.

The match-up with the Thundering Herd is the third between the two schools, as they haven’t played each other since the 2006 season.

“We’re happy to get the opportunity to play Duquesne as we know the great job coach Al Alvine does with his program and we have a lot of respect for them,” Waldrum said. “I’m also excited to play Marshall as I’ve never played them nor been on their campus in all the years I’ve coached. We’re very much looking forward to these two games.”

With a 9-5-0 record in the fall, Pitt can set a program record for most wins in a single-season with victories over Duquesne and Marshall in March. The 2015 squad (10-7-1) is the only team to reach 10 victories in one year.

The match at Pitt will be the season opener for Duquesne, as they’ll embark on an eight-game Atlantic 10 schedule following that match through the Spring.

At this time, no fans are allowed inside Ambrose Urbanic Field due to the ongoing pandemic. Updates on this nature will be provided on Pitt’s athletic website and social media.
