Pair of late St. Bonaventure goals sink Duquesne, 2-0

St. Bonaventure scored twice in the final 18 minutes of action to earn a 2-0 victory over Duquesne in an Atlantic 10 tilt on Saturday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field.

It was a tough loss for the Dukes, who had an opportunity to make a move to the top of the standings in their Atlantic 10 pod play.  Instead, they fall to 2-3 with the loss and a 2-2 mark in A-10 play while the Bonnies improve to 4-2-1 with a 1-2-1 ledger in conference contests.

Frederick Hansen’s shot in the 72nd minute of play deflected off a Duquesne defender before trickling to the right side of the back of the net.

With less than three minutes to play, the Bonnies added an insurance goal when Luca Tiozzo broke free and scored off the assist by Francesco Caorsi and Joshua Pulla.

Despite owning a 22-10 shooting advantage, the Dukes held a slim 7-5 edge in shots on goal.

Duquesne goalkeeper Domenic Nascimben recorded three saves on the night while St. Bonaventure netminder Justyn Sandhu made seven saves.

Maxi Hopfer tallied six shots while Jack Shearer registered five shots, including two on net in the contest.

The Dukes honored seniors Ryan Landry and Jack Shearer prior to the match.
