Point Park women’s soccer earn top seed in upcoming conference tournament

From Point Park University Athletic Department release

Point Park University women’s soccer has earned the No. 1 seed in the River States Conference Women’s Soccer Championship with its 8-2 RSC record and a pair of wins over the other top teams in the league. The bracket was released Monday, March 29 with the completion of the regular season.

The Pioneers are on top of the six-team bracket that starts April 1 with the quarterfinal round. Point Park earned a bye into the semifinals and hosts that round April 6 with an opponent that is TBA.

Kickoff will be 12 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.

Point Park won eight of its 10 conference games, all of which happened in the fall season. IU East (8-2 RSC) and Rio Grande (Ohio) (8-2 RSC) were with the Pioneers in three-way tie atop the final standings as all three teams share the RSC Regular Season title. But Point Park earned the top seed by going 2-0 against the Red Wolves and RedStorm.

The conference playoffs will go through Pittsburgh with the Pioneers having home-field advantage throughout. It is the second time in three years that the Pioneers are the No. 1 seed as this year’s squad joined the 2018 team with that honor.

Point Park will host the winner of the quarterfinal matchup featuring Ohio Christian (5-5 RSC) at Asbury (Ky.) (7-2-1 RSC). The winner of that will move on to the finals April 10 at the highest-remaining seed.

The RSC Women’s Soccer Championship winner will advance to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship, which begins April 15-17 with the opening round at campus sites. Point Park is seeking its third trip to the NAIA national tournament and the first since back to back trips in 2015 and 2016.

The RSC Game Central presented by Stretch Internet will broadcast all games of the RSC Women’s Soccer Championship.
