WPIAL Soccer finals set to return to Highmark Stadium on November 5-6

On Monday, the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (PIAA’s Distric 7) approved championship dates and sites for the rest of its fall sports, most notably, they said goodbye once again to those annoying football lines, as the WPIAL boys and girls soccer championships will return to soccer-specific Highmark Stadium on Nov. 5-6 after a year away from the venue.

“That’s one we really value,” WPIAL Executive Director, Amy Scheuneman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

“That facility, from a soccer standpoint — it’s a beautiful stadium, and the teams love playing there. It was just a matter of opening back up and being able to get in there.”

Due to continuing concerns and restrictions due to COVID-19, the WPIAL soccer finals were played at high school sites for the first time since Highmark Stadium made its debut in 2013.

Instead, multiple sites hosted eight finals matches over the course of a two-day span last November.

In 2019, eight finals games were last played at Highmark Stadium over a three-day span from October 31 through November 2.
