FINAL: Riverhounds 3, Charleston 3

Live Updates

FINAL – Riverhounds 3, Charleston 3.

A wild one. The Riverhounds took advantage of a groggy Charleston, then failed to possess or defend and let them back into the game before clawing one back at the death to get a point.

Credit to Charleston as they really regained confidence, but this one definitely wasn’t the Hounds best performance defensively by a long shot.

90+5 – On the long rebound, Charleston runs it to the other end, but the shot is blocked by a Hounds defender. Whistle – full time.

90+4 – Pair of yellow cards. Tommy Williamson (PIT) and Leland Archer (CHS) get booked.

90+3 – Foul and yellow card to Charleston and the Hounds have a chance inside the final third with nothing on the clock. Kenardo Forbes plays a cross to the back post for Tom Judge, but his shot is blocked.

90+2 – Velarde plays in Dixon who takes a left footed shot from the left side, and it curls right, low, and wide of the post. But not by much.

89′ – Riverhounds substitution. Tom Judge comes on for Russell Cicerone, who finishes the night with two assists.

88′ – Riverhounds goal from Alex Dixon! Hounds get a quick attack down the right. A short chipped cross from Russell Cicerone at the right edge of the box finds a surging Alex Dixon. Dixon’s foot thrashes at the ball and smashes a furious shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Hounds are back level.

87′ – Riverhounds substitution. Hounds put on Judge and Ezra Armstrong.

85′ – Charleston substitution. Burke Fahling comes on for Erik McCue.

83′ – Riverhounds substitution. Tommy Williamson comes on for Dani Rovira.

81′ – Charleston goal. Off a restart, the ball is played in by Charleston to the top of the box right above the penalty half-circle. He heads it down straight to the feet of the Genoese striker Claudio Repetto, who lashes a quarter volley into the back of the net, and the Hounds are suddenly down 3 to 2.

78′ – Immediate life as a play down the right side ends up at Cicerone’s feet. He drives into the box and crosses far post for Anthony Velarde. Velarde’s headed effort bounces in front of goal and is saved at waist-height by keeper Kuzminsky.

77′ – Hounds substitutions. Louis Perez on for Jordan Dover, and Anthony Velarde on for Todd Wharton.

74′ – The Hounds look tired. Movement is a slow and everyone looks a bit gassed.

74′ – Charleston Substitution. Nicque Daley comes off for Joshua Penn.

68′ – Goal, Charleston. Match is tied up 2-2. Free kick is swung in and Claudio Repetto gets a head to it. Danny Vitiello picks it out of the back of the net. The Hounds are letting this one get away from them.

67′ Yellow card on Dani Rovira

**Attendance is 3,529.** 🙂

59′ – Charleston are doing a much better job of moving the ball around and into threatening spots this half. Pittsburgh have been most dangerous playing direct and deep, although the passes have mostly been offside or overhit so far.

55′ – Midfield turnover and the Hounds break down the right flank in numbers. Dixon misses wide right.

46′ – We’re off and running for the second half. Hounds headed east to west (downstream from the Mon towards the Ohio.)

Halftime – Hounds 2, Charleston.

Other than a short six minute stretch where Charleston moved the ball clean ly and were organized, the Riverhounds are dominating possession and getting the better of the looks, while generally playing passes across and up one line at a time.

A very good half for the good guys.

45′ – Danny Griffin down the left side gets into the box and his cross is deflected out for a Hounds corner. Ball is a little deep and Dixon at the back post doesn’t have much of a play on it.

44′ – Dixon is back on.

42′ – Alex Dixon is involved in a collision and is down. He comes off to the side after a minute, and the Hounds will play with 10 men for a moment.

35′ – Charleston Goal. On a corner, Robbie Crawford swings it in right footed to the near post, and Leland Archer heads it low just inside the post.

30′ – Yellow Card, Charleston.

27′ – Riverhounds Goal! Shane Wiedt scores on a pass from Russell Cicerone, and the Hounds are well in control here at Highmark Stadium.

20′ – Once again, the Hounds have been in control and have overwhelming kept the ball on the

14′ – Counterattack on a turnover for Charleston, but Forward Claudio Repetto puts it wide to the left.

6′ – Riverhounds Goal! A cross through the box from Russell Cicerone to Todd Wharton. He puts his foot through it puts it to the left side of the goal, shoulder height, and past Joe Kuzminsky; and the Hounds go on top 1-0.

4′ – In the early goings, Charleston has barely touched the ball, and the Hounds have spent every moment on the attacking side of the pitch.

1′ – Kickoff! The 14-7-5 Riverhounds take on the 8-9-5 Charleston Battery in an ‘Old Guard Shield’ matchup.
